LONDON

We had a bit of a layover in London and had decided in advance to take advantage of the Yotel in one of the airport terminals.  A Yotel is kind of like a compact space-age style cabin designed for travelers who want a place to sleep, shower, use internet, and relax during their layover.  Check out this website for pictures & info:
Here are a couple of pictures of us chillin' in our Yotel room.

If you’ve never transited through Heathrow and plan to at some time, be aware that it is a VERY large airport.  Even Marc and I, who are always in plenty of time for flights, had to hustle to get to our gate on time because we didn’t realize that after taking a bus to change terminals we would still have to take a tram to get from the check-in point to the gate. When we arrived, they were calling pre-boarding for our flight to Lusaka.  Yikes!  Too close for comfort, for sure.

After my heart rate came back to normal, we settled into our seats and reflected on the life change that was ahead of us.  Exciting, scary, long-awaited…. How would our first meeting be?  Would this life change be all we hoped for?  Would the children take to us or reject us outright?  Do we really know what we’re doing?  All these questions swirled around in my head for a while and I tried to keep calm and level-headed.  Fortunately for me, I have genes on both sides of my family that allow me to sleep anywhere, anytime; so soon enough I wrapped myself in my cocoon and did one of the things I do best – zzzzzzzzzzzz…..

Overall, the flight was pleasant and uneventful – well, other than my melted ice-pack that dripped all over the lady sleeping in the row behind me when I opened the overhead baggage compartment – and ten hours after boarding we were landing in Lusaka.
